The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) implemented many changes in the health care system and clinics nationwide had to learn to abide by new rules and regulations. The key components included expanding Medicaid eligibility, establishing health insurance exchanges, requiring insurers to cover essential health benefits, and offering subsidies to help individuals afford coverage. Another critical component of that Act was directed to healthcare providers. Unfortunately, when polled nearly 80% of small provider clinics were completely unaware that PPACA made Office Compliance Programs mandatory for all physician practices as a condition of enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid, and/or CHIP. These compliance programs must address certain ‘core elements.’
