This training concept is designed to introduce you to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It explores the requirements for healthcare offices as they relate to patient privacy and the security of health records.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted in the early 2000s to begin the process of protecting patients’ Personal Health Information. There were three phases of HIPAA installation that included HIPAA Privacy, HIPAA Security, and the HIPAA Omnibus Final rules. These federal requirements are administered through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) This lesson provides a high-level overview of the HIPAA program that all healthcare providers are required to implement and maintain.
