In this training concept, the doctor and team members will master how to personalize and implement the mandatory Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage (ABN) in the office. The correct use of the mandatory ABN shifts the financial liability for otherwise covered Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment (CMT) to the beneficiary in cases when the service is likely to be considered not medically necessary, like maintenance care. Completed ABN forms must meet the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) criteria; any errors will invalidate them. Using an ABN form in a voluntary fashion, for services that are NEVER covered by Medicare, is outlined in the lesson titled, Correct Use of the Voluntary ABN Form.
